DCMA-14

What ScheduleQC checks

The 14 schedule-quality checks from the DCMA EVMS Program Analysis Pamphlet (DCMA-EA PAM 200.1). Checks 1 to 10 are run on your file. Checks 11 to 14 need a baseline schedule or a deliberate test on a copy of the schedule, so they are not scored automatically.

  1. Check 01

    Logic

Incomplete tasks missing a predecessor and/or successor.

Threshold: 5% or less; above 5% is a flag
  2. Check 02

    Leads

Logic links with a negative lag.

    Threshold: 0
  3. Check 03

    Lags

Logic links with a positive lag.

Threshold: 5% of links or less
  4. Check 04

    Relationship types

Share of links that are Finish-to-Start.

Threshold: FS at least 90%; SF only very rarely with detailed justification
  5. Check 05

    Hard constraints

    Incomplete tasks with hard constraints.

    Threshold: 5% or less
  6. Check 06

    High float

Incomplete tasks with total float over 44 working days.

    Threshold: 5% or less
  7. Check 07

    Negative float

Incomplete tasks with total float below zero.

Threshold: No percentage stated; ideally none
  8. Check 08

    High duration

Incomplete tasks with baseline duration over 44 working days that start in the detail planning period.

    Threshold: 5% or less
  9. Check 09

    Invalid dates

Forecast dates before the status date, or actual dates after it, on incomplete tasks.

    Threshold: 0
  10. Check 10

    Resources

Tasks with duration over zero but no dollars or hours.

Threshold: No threshold stated; applies only if the schedule is resource-loaded
  11. Check 11

    Missed tasks

    Not scored automatically

Tasks with baseline finish on or before the status date that finished (or are forecast to finish) later.

    Threshold: 5% or less
  12. Check 12

    Critical path test

    Not scored automatically

Whether a deliberate slip on the critical path moves the end date proportionally.

    Threshold: Proportional response expected
  13. Check 13

    CPLI

    Not scored automatically

(Critical path length + total float) / critical path length.

Threshold: Below 0.95 is a flag
  14. Check 14

    BEI

    Not scored automatically

Tasks completed / tasks baselined to finish by the status date.

Threshold: Below 0.95 is a flag

How it works

From P6 export to graded report

  1. Export the .xer from P6

Export your schedule from Primavera P6 as an .xer file (.xml also works).

  2. Upload and preview the parse

Drop the file above and check what was read from it before you run the analysis.

  3. Get a graded report

See the DCMA-14 results with the flagged activities listed, kept in your private workspace.

Inside your workspace

  • Overview: a schedule-quality score and a summary of each report area in one place.
  • Quality: the DCMA-14 checks, with the activities behind each flag.
  • Schedule: a project timeline with a critical-path phase view.
  • Resources: resource-loading coverage across the WBS.
  • Risk: scenario analysis on your schedule.
  • Issues: findings from all analyzers in a single list.
  • Rule library: browse the rules applied to your schedule.
  • Revisions: later updates of the same project are listed together in your workspace.
Who it’s for

Built for people who review schedules

  • Schedulers and planners

Catch missing logic, constraints and bad dates before a schedule goes out.

  • Owner's reps and schedule reviewers

Screen a submitted file against the DCMA-14 thresholds and see what to ask about.

  • Project controls and PMs

Get a graded view of schedule health without opening every activity.

  • Claims and delay analysts

Check whether a schedule's logic and dates are sound before you rely on it.

What Is the DCMA-14? A Complete Guide to Schedule Quality Assessment

Leads are negative lags, and DCMA wants none of them. This guide explains what leads do to float, whether the ban is universal, and how to model the same overlap correctly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the DCMA-14 assessment?

The DCMA 14-Point Assessment is a set of 14 schedule-quality checks, including missing logic, leads, lags, hard constraints, float and duration limits, invalid dates, CPLI and BEI. It comes from the Defense Contract Management Agency's October 2012 EVMS Program Analysis Pamphlet (DCMA-EA PAM 200.1) and is meant to find problem areas in an integrated master schedule. The thresholds act as flags, not automatic failures. Read the full guide.

Which files can I upload?

Primavera P6 schedules exported as .xer or .xml, up to 250 MB.

Where is my schedule stored?

Schedules and analysis results are stored for 90 days in a private workspace tied to the browser you uploaded from.

Does a passing DCMA-14 score mean my schedule is good?

Not on its own. The checks test structure and status, and DCMA's own text says a red metric is not in itself synonymous with failure. A passing score also says little about whether durations are realistic, the scope is complete, or calendars fit the work.

Is ScheduleQC free? Do I need an account?

Yes, ScheduleQC is free, and there is no sign-up. Your results live in a private workspace tied to your browser.
